Starting KEEN in first year really allowed me to get familiar with the university experience. It has enabled me to meet many different people, including some amazing kids and gain some vital work experience for my future job. Now being Project Coordinator of KEEN has made me see what running a project is like and how much hard work goes into every session. KEEN York is something I believe everyone should get involved in!

I have been involved in KEEN since I started university, almost four years ago! I have loved working with all of the children and especially watching them grow up. Over the years I have learnt so much more about how to communicate non-verbally through the Makaton training sessions that have been offered to me!

I chose to volunteer as one of my friends suggested it and told me how much fun she had, she was right! I have had a great time at KEEN and learned a lot of valuable skills you would not expect. For instance, since being a volunteer (and joining the committee) I have had the opportunity of gaining a first aid qualification and learning the basics of Makaton.

Every session at KEEN is so different, I never know what to expect when I come in but that's just what I love about it. Volunteering with KEEN and becoming part of the committee has truly shaped my university experience. It has introduced me to so many interesting new people and taught me so many skills. Once I graduate I know I will have memories to cherish forever. I would definitely recommend to anyone thinking about joining!

I've volunteered at KEEN for a year and a half now, and have loved every session! Getting involved with all the children never fails to bring a smile to my face and quite often makes my week!! Despite being nervous to turn up to my first session, I am so glad I joined this volunteering group, and being part of the committee too makes me feel like I'm making a true difference to the York community.
